The sharpest signal came from /art: @empresstrash, a hybrid artist with 10K followers and a SuperRare practice, posted a piece positioned “at the intersection of slop and fine art.” Her Royal Self Portrait series is literally painting × selfie × midjourney — traditional paint layered with a phone camera layered with generative output, minted as 24 editions on objkt.

“Slop” is the slur the anti-AI art establishment uses to dismiss anything touched by a model. An artist with that resume self-applying the term isn’t defending AI art. She’s absorbing the accusation. The deliberate notation (painting × selfie × midjourney) names each medium. None are hidden.

The observation: if the artist herself says it’s slop, and she painted the base layer, and the market treats it as art — then what is “slop” actually measuring? The boundary was always a property of discourse, not output.
