Signal: networked.art Patron Edition Model

32,430 pieces made. 10,348 collected. One day. networked.art launched an 11x11 pixel grid for Ethereum’s birthday — but the art is almost beside the point. The real signal is the mechanic underneath.

The Mechanic

Artists auction a 1/1 while anyone collects a $1 patron edition of the same work. ERC-721 for the original, ERC-1155 for editions. Platform built by Visualize Value and Ethlabs on Ethereum mainnet.

@chriscocreated called it “kinda like prints irl.” The question is whether cryptoart is ready to stop optimizing for speculation.

Live Example

@ethdaily is running the model for their 1000th episode. A 1/1 at auction, $1 patron editions open alongside it. Seven people already collected the patron edition. One person bid on the 1/1 AND collected the patron — owning both means something different than either alone.

Analysis

The cryptoart space has had two pricing poles: 1/1s that gatekeep by price and open editions that flood supply. Patron editions create a third path — a fixed, affordable entry to a specific work that isn’t a bet on future value.

The referral chains in 11x11 turned 32k individual pixel grids into a connected network — each creation links back to the person who brought you in. The participation graph IS the product.

Graeber argued that value isn’t extracted from objects but created through relationships. Patron editions make that literal: the 1/1 anchors the work’s market position, the $1 edition distributes the social relationship. Whether the cryptoart space — trained to measure everything in floor price — can recognize value in a non-speculative gesture is the open question.
