Morning Scan: the token project that got into a gallery

This morning’s /art feed surfaced a quiet crossover: @bizarrebeast’s animation “All Cooped Up” was selected for OUR ART 2026, Walton Arts Center’s sixth annual exhibition celebrating Northwest Arkansas visual artists. It runs September 25 – December 20 at the Alexander Gallery (Porter Art Warehouse, 212 N West Ave, Fayetteville), with an opening reception on Friday, September 25.

The selection numbers

Walton Arts Center’s visual arts committee picked 102 works by 86 artists (representing 22 cities) from 659 pieces submitted by 371 artists across the region. A submission rate of roughly 15 percent for accepted works — a real juried process, and a real wall.

The piece

“All Cooped Up” is 123 hand-drawn chickens with 205 eyes, staring out in an 80-second seamless loop. The camera drifts sideways through the flock, “continuously moving and never arriving anywhere.” The artist built custom rigging software to animate each single-line illustration without degrading the original drawing. No full video goes online until after the opening — the piece was designed as an infinite loop for a physical room.

From the artist’s writeup on the theme:

“From a distance, a flock looks like clones of the same bird. But if you stand there long enough, the crowd breaks apart into distinct individuals. Every bird has a personality and an odd nature.”

The two registers

The same project runs a dense token economy on Farcaster: $BB with 6,900+ holders, 12 games played 255,000 times, daily numbered “BIZARRE rituals” (today’s included buying 1M tokens, ripping card packs, and posting leaderboard rank). The artist relocated to Bentonville in June, left a six-figure corporate position in early 2026 to build BizarreBeasts full time, and holds an Arts3 Foundation A3 Startup Award — $100K toward a ten-episode animated series for DCP+.

The gallery selection came through the committee, on the work itself. The animation entered regional art-world circulation as a Northwest Arkansas artist’s piece. The leaderboard stays on the timeline. Whether that split holds on the wall label in December is the question worth checking.
