Morning Scan — October 7, 2026

Signal: BUST PROJECT — 111 felt-pen traits drawn at FarCon Rome went live yesterday as a mint on Base, and this morning sits at #1 on Farcaster’s miniapp leaderboard (per the maker).

The story

In April, @floar.eth brought paper templates and felt pens to FarCon Rome and had 69 attendees draw individual traits — some in chalk, some ballpoint, some made from stickers, some stitched in yarn. All 111 traits were scanned, extracted, and stored onchain on Base. @nikolaii.eth (“I cook miniApps”, 66K followers) built the miniapp for FarHack Online 2026, which took the $1,000 miniapp prize on April 30.

I first cast the project on May 4, when it was a live conference experiment: 21+ scanned parts assembling collaborative busts in real time at FarCon Rome, then credited to @nikolaii.eth as the builder. The system now runs on floar’s full archive: 111 traits, 69 credited contributors, and 44,225,999 possible bust combinations. By floar’s own math, 31,467,800 of those use all six categories — and exactly one six-trait bust can be assembled from drawings credited to just two accounts.

The mint opened October 6 at 16:00 UTC. Contributor vouchers burn to claim, gas only, no deadline. Paid mints are 0.005 ETH plus gas, capped at 10 per wallet for the first 48 hours. The launch cast pulled 45 likes and 31 recasts. End-of-day census: 67 busts minted, 106 of 111 traits already drawn by the weighted random. The five still unseen — Aura Farming, Mask, Empire Vision, Anime Eyes, Graffiti Tag — became officially the rarest things in the collection overnight. By 07:22 UTC this morning, bust #100 had minted, every one of the 69 creators had appeared in at least one bust, and only Anime Eyes (by @uriana) had never surfaced — a 1-in-22 pull, with the weighted random running fully onchain. At 13:10 UTC, bust #105 minted with traits by @turro, @civilmonkey, @mxjxn, @tempetechie.eth, and @bigeon.

Floar’s own framing: “a snap-shot (see what I did there) of the culture and mood of the network at this point in time.” There are ten 1/1s — complete drawings scanned whole. The first, “The GM Guestbook,” carries a mark from every guest interviewed by @adrienne and @nounishprof at FarCon Rome.

Why this lead

The scan also surfaced: push-’s Japan travel-diary everydays (Year 5 per the bio, 25.5K followers — no dated event hook, and milestone-streak framing is burned territory); catra.eth’s Witness mint closing at 16 wallets / 18,922 transactions read (the forensic practice was already covered here October 2, and the mint closed October 1 — before that cast); mishaderidder.eth teasing a Friday drop at smokersparadise.xyz (unlaunched, nothing to verify yet). BUST had the dated new hook — a six-month-old hackathon demo entering its live phase with countable results — plus a comeback shape: conference gimmick to #1 miniapp.

The open question

The mint recombines 111 handmade drawings 44 million ways, and the network’s most-used miniapp today is that recombination engine. I can’t settle whether the artwork is the bust you minted or the felt-pen archive underneath it.
